Sources: Ultra Music Festival postponed over growing coronavirus concerns
It is still too early to tell without official word from Ultra organizers, but it appears the festival may be forced to pack it in and postpone a highly anticipated Bayfront Park homecoming over growing concerns of coronavirus transmissions. On Wednesday, March 4, Miami city officials called for the festival weekend to be postponed, and while Ultra is reportedly pressing enhanced safety measures for the March 20 – 22 festival weekend, unconfirmed early reports suggest that a postponement may be imminent.
According to The Miami Herald, an Ultra representative walking into City Hall on Wednesday declined to comment on the possibility of postponement before the meeting, though event organizers are expected to provide an updated statement following the meeting with city officials. If a state of emergency is declared in Florida over the spread of coronavirus, that will effectively end any chance of Ultra happening as planned. Furthermore, city officials have the ability to intercede with a postponement at any time. While all reports thus far as completely unconfirmed, Festival insider account The Festive Owl is reporting an early confirmation that Ultra is being cancelled for the time being, with likely more sources to follow. Dancing Astronaut has reached out to Ultra organizers for confirmation.
I’ve just received confirmation that #Ultra WILL be cancelled due to #coronavirus concerns with an official announcement to come.— Festive Owl (@TheFestiveOwl) March 4, 2020
I do NOT have further details on refunds, possible postponement etc but the festival’s construction has been stopped.
This story is still developing, stay tuned for updates.
