Stormzy picked up an Ivor Novello award for his album 'Gang Signs & Prayer'

Stormzy was victorious in the album category the Ivor Novello awards yesterday (May 31).

He was awarded the accolade for last year's 'Gang Signs & Prayer', with judges at the Grosvenor House, London event saying the album contained “exceptional songwriting" and called it "an astonishing open-hearted body work that fully captures the spirit 2017."

Dave, the rapper from south London won Best Contemporary Song for 'Question Time', in which he criticises UK Prime Minister Theresa May and David Cameron.

Stormzy and Dave's wins follow Skepta's success at the awards last year when he won Songwriter the Year and best contemporary song.

Mica Levi, aka Micachu, was another winner, succeeding in Best Original Film Score for her work on Jackie, the film focusing on John F. Kennedy's wife following his assassination.
