David Guetta Puts On a Show at Depot 52 for NYE
Nightlife on the East Coast is predominantly popular in a few cities with Miami and New York being the two biggest destinations. With this being said, it is expected for New York to host some the biggest NYE Parties in the world and this year was no different. Every year around October, EDM fans from across the East Coast anticipate the big NYE event announcement and to the delight fans, David Guetta announced his return to New York this year to ring in the New Year at Brooklyn’s Depot 52. The frenchman didn’t come alone though, in fact he brought a very impressive supporting line up consisting talents including MAKJ, CID Music, and Michael Calfan. With such an impressive roster, there was no doubt this was the party to attend to ring in 2018. Little did we know just how incredible the night would be.
The event kicked f early at 8PM with local DJ, Lestat who was then immediately followed by CID Music at 9PM. By 9:30PM, the venue was already packed. Many the attendees purchased open-bar tickets which provided them the luxury unlimited drinks in their own VIP section until midnight. Michael Calfan hit the stage at 10:30PM to electrify the crowd with an interesting set that presented a variety tracks. David Guetta would get on stage around 11:50 to countdown with his fans but his set would ficially begin at midnight.
If you’ve ever seen Guetta in the past, you would know that the man really knows how to throw a party. Although known for his wide-range hit tracks including collaborations with pop-stars such as Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber, Guetta surprised fans with a more diverse gig. 15 mins into his set, he alerted the crowd that tonight was going to be a special night and that he would be playing a mixture tracks from all different genres including trap, techno, house, and trance. The announcement was followed by a roar excitement from the crowd. Guetta stayed true to his word and played everything from Eric Prydz’s ‘Opus’, Sebastian Ingrosso’s ‘Reload’, to all his major hits including ‘2U’ and ‘Titanium’, it seemed like he played every track at his disposal to please the crowd. On top the impressive musical selection, the presentation for the night was equally impressive. Of course, it won’t be a NYE party without balloons and confetti, but what was not expected was the amazing light show provided by the immense amount lasers.
Around 2AM, Guetta ended his set but being that it’s the new year, no one was ready to go home. That was when MAKJ took the stage to perform an upbeat house set that set the tone for the rest the night.
A lot times, at EDM events, the whole lineup would be dedicated to a specific genre music which may leave fans disappointed. However, David Guetta at Depot 52 for NYE consisted a little bit everything to ensure everyone left happy. An appearance from Guetta in New York City is definitely a rare occurrence but the opportunity to see him perform on NYE may be once in a lifetime. If you were unable to witness his spectacular performance in New York last week, definitely make it a resolution to see him play at least once this year.
