"Deadpool 2" Original Script Had The Hero As A Father
Deadpool 2 hits theaters in just over a week, and Ryan Reynolds sat down with Entertainment Weekly to speak about the upcoming Rated-R superhero sequel. Unlike Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2 is definitely not a film for children, although it is up to parents to decide whether the expletive-laden sexually obscene content is alright for their kids to watch. Still, although parents may not want to take their kids to see the movie, Reynolds revealed that the original script from Deadpool 2 featured one very special child... a baby.
“The genesis it was “What if Deadpool had a child?” Like, what if we started five years later and what would that be like? By page 1.5, it was totally untenable,” Reynolds told EW. “We were just like, ‘Nope. Nope. No, no, no. This is never, ever going to work.’ We went back to the drawing board and kind reworked it in a way about wanting to have a child, which is something that so many people I know experience on a daily basis — wanting to have a child but can’t.”
Reynolds also revealed that the first movie played like a romantic comedy (admit it, it was a love story with comedy), while this new film will focus more on the aspects family. “The first movie is a love story masquerading as a comic-book movie, and this one is kind a family film masquerading as a comic-book film again," he explained.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18.
