Kendrick Lamar Quoted By Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom During Victory Speech
Kendrick Lamar is one the rare artists our generation that's able to be honest in his music while simultaneously being able to appeal to a wider audience besides his core fan base. It's likely a factor that helped his latest album, DAMN. land a Pulitzer Prize for Music, making him the first non-jazz or non-classical artist to achieve this accolade. More recently, the rapper's lead single f the album got quoted during California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's victory speech last night after winning the Primary.
Last night was a big night for Gavin Newsom as he advanced in the California election to become the next Governor. After winning the primary last night, Newsom paid homage to some the great rappers that came out the Sunshine State. Newsom marched victoriously on the stage to 2Pac's Cali anthem, "California Love" and shortly after, quoted "the great California poet" Kendrick Lamar's hit single "HUMBLE." during his speech.
"We know that California at its best will always be better than Washington's worst impulses. You know that great California poet by the name Kendrick Lamar?" He said to a room applause, "He once said, 'be humble.'"
It seems like he won over a few people on Twitter by quoting Kendrick Lamar. We'll see if that's enough to land him the position as the Governor California.
