National Donut Day Finds Houston Police Trolling With These Photos

For years people have joked about how much police ficers love donuts. According to TIME, the joke began after WWII, when police ficers who worked long hours at odd times had little food options. Stocking up on donuts at the late-night diners became a habit for many ficers working those crazed hours, and so the joke was born.

Today is National Donut Day and the Houston Police Department decided to play into the "cops love donuts" joke. On Twitter, the Houston Police Department shared a picture ficers lining up in front  Shipley's, waiting for it to open. The caption on the post reads, "HPD Northeast night shift ficers and @K9TRex waiting on #donutday @ShipleyDo_Nuts."

The ficers must have been impatient, because they shared a second photo two cops with their K9 looking through the window the closed Shipley's hopefully.

Almost every breakfast food store is fering free donuts today. Dunkin Donuts will give customers one free classic donut when a drink is purchased. Krispy Kreme stores are fering one free donut with no purchase necessary, and even Walmart is feeling the holiday cheer by fering one free glazed donut at US locations.
