Trump Nominates Bill Belichick, Mariano Rivera For Sports Council

New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick are among the sports figures nominated by President Donald Trump for the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

The council, which was founded in 1956, encourages Americans to live a healthy lifestyle that balances physical activity and good nutrition. Earlier this year, President Trump signed an executive order that detailed the way the council would be handled moving forward. 

"My Administration recognizes the benefits youth sports participation, physical activity, and a nutritious diet in helping create habits that support a healthy lifestyle and improve the overall health the American people. My Administration therefore aims to expand and encourage youth sports participation, and to promote the overall physical fitness, health, and nutrition all Americans."

In addition to Belichick and Rivera, Trump will also reportedly appoint former Pro Bowl running back Herschel Walker, former Yankees and Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon, freestyle wrestling Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder, three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, golfer Natalie Gulbis, and silver-medal-winning bobsledder Shauna Rohbock to the council.

According to ABC, others outside the sports world who were selected to be part the 23-member council including actor and bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno, television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz and a number business executives.
